The hymen is a hollow membrane covering the outer mouth of the female vagina. It is 1-2 cm thick. The front and back sides of the membrane are wet mucous membranes. There are connective tissue, microvessels and nerve endings between the two layers of mucous membranes. The hole in the middle is called the hymen hole. The size of the hymen hole and the thickness of the membrane vary from person to person. The diameter of the hymen hole is 1-1.5 cm, which is usually round, oval or serrated; Some are in the shape of a half moon, with the membrane pore zone leaning to one side; Some are divided into separate holes, with two small holes arranged in parallel up and down or left and right; Some have many scattered small holes, like those on chopsticks.
Women have their own vaginal protective barrier - hymen during the development of the mother. Before the end of adolescence, the girls' hymen has been silently giving, making great contributions to the healthy development of their bodies.
Before puberty, due to physiological reasons such as low levels of hormones in the ovaries, thin vaginal mucosa, less wrinkled walls, low acidity, and weak resistance, women's vaginas are almost unable to effectively prevent the invasion of various bacteria. At this time, the hymen not far from the vulva is playing a glorious role in blocking the invasion of germs.
Of course, after puberty, as the vagina gradually matures, its ability to resist bacteria will also be greatly enhanced, and hymen will lose its original position and withdraw from the front line of fighting bacteria.
The hymen hole is necessary for physiology. When a woman is mature, the monthly menstrual blood is discharged through this hole. If there is no hole on the membrane, the monthly menstrual blood is blocked by it and cannot be discharged from the body, which is called hymen atresia in medicine. If not detected in a timely manner, the outflow of menstrual blood will be hindered.
As for the role of hymen "to choose the strong among men", it actually played more role in the Primitive Society.
It is said that at that time, society treated sex as ordinary as animal sexual intercourse, to the extent that people did not treat 'sex' purely as a private matter, as they do today. People run around the vast grasslands or dense jungle every day, solving problems such as eating, sleeping, and having sex on the spot. At this point, the problem arose. Since the issue of "sex" was not subject to any constraints at the time and was more about reproduction, it meant that men and women could mate freely. However, due to the extremely low survival rate of human beings at that time, human beings must adapt to nature, constantly evolve and improve to ensure the continuous growth of the population, which gradually led to the "hymen" of women.
The role of the hymen is to eliminate the aggression of the old, young, sick and disabled people on women. The sperm activity of the old, young and disabled people is poor, and it is difficult to pass through the hymen successfully, thus leaving more opportunities for reproduction to those strong men. As a result, we can not ignore the small "hymen", which has quietly contributed to the "survival of the fittest" of mankind.
The hymen is often ruptured, such as trauma or sharp objects happen to touch the vulva, some are injured by masturbation, washing or vaginal tampons, and some hymen is inherently fragile and can be ruptured when engaged in strenuous exercise. Therefore, it is not possible to judge whether a virgin is only by whether the hymen is broken.
