Sexual Health
What kind of examination should be done for syphilis? These five types of examinations are essential
Syphilis is a chronic sexually transmitted disease caused by the infection of Treponema pallidum, mainly transmitted through sexual behavior. It is more common in the male penis, coronal sulcus, glans, foreskin, and urethral opening, and more commonly in the female clitoris, labia, and cervix. Treponema pallidum can invade the central nervous system, leading to paralytic dementia or cerebrovascular disease, and in severe cases, it can be life-threatening. Once symptoms similar to syphilis appear, it is necessary to go to the hospital for relevant examinations, early diagnosis, and early treatment to curb the condition.
What are the syphilis testing items?
1. Detection of Treponema pallidum IGM antibody
IGM antibodies are a type of immunoglobulin that has high sensitivity in diagnosing syphilis, allowing for early diagnosis and determining whether the fetus is infected with Treponema pallidum.
2. Syphilis serological testing
Syphilis serological testing mainly includes two types. One is syphilis spirochete serological testing, which is mainly used to determine experiments, but cannot determine the treatment effect. Another type is non syphilitic spirochete serological testing, which is used for clinical screening and determining treatment outcomes. Suffering from syphilis, the syphilis serum test is lifelong positive.
3. Dark field microscopy
A dark field of view, which means that there is no bright light under a microscope and can detect pale spirochetes. This belongs to pathogen testing and plays a crucial role in diagnosing early syphilis, and is also a major aspect of syphilis testing.
4. Cerebrospinal fluid detection
When syphilis reaches its advanced stage, neurological symptoms may appear, and after a series of treatments, there is no effect. Cerebrospinal fluid testing is necessary. This examination is helpful for the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of neurosyphilis.
5. Molecular biology syphilis detection
Molecular biology syphilis detection is widely used in clinical practice, expanding the selected spiral DNA sequence from selected materials, increasing the number of selected spiral DNA copies, making it easier to detect syphilis using specific probes, and improving the diagnostic rate of syphilis.
Warm Reminder
When suffering from syphilis, it is important to pay attention and not refuse treatment due to embarrassment. Sexual partners should go to the hospital together for examination and treatment. Early syphilis can be clinically cured and eliminated through thorough treatment. But when syphilis reaches its advanced stage, it can only eliminate inflammation within the tissue, and the damaged tissue is already difficult to repair. Develop good hygiene habits and avoid sharing razors, tableware, towels, etc. with others. Clean your own love and resolutely eliminate unclean sexual intercourse. Sexual activity requires wearing a condom to prevent syphilis infection. Avoid blood transfusions and sharing syringes, avoid tattooing in unsanitary areas, and use poorly disinfected medical equipment. Before marriage, it is necessary to undergo a syphilis test, as couples infected with syphilis can transmit Treponema pallidum to the fetus through the placenta.
