Is sexually transmitted disease only transmitted through sex? Seven Misunderstandings in Counting Sexually Transmitted Diseases
Traditional concept of sexually transmitted diseases refers to diseases transmitted through sexual intercourse, with the main lesions occurring in the genital area. Including syphilis, gonorrhea, soft prickly heat, sexually transmitted lymphogranuloma, and inguinal granuloma, which were once known as willow disease. At present, the public has the following misconceptions about sexually transmitted diseases.
Myth 1: Sexually transmitted diseases are all sexually transmitted diseases
There are hundreds of sexually transmitted diseases, but there are only 8 sexually transmitted diseases in China.
Myth 2: Sexually transmitted diseases are only transmitted through sex
Sexually transmitted diseases are mainly transmitted through sexual contact, but there are also other ways of transmission. Taking genital warts as an example, 60% -80% of patients are transmitted through sexual contact, and 20% -30% are transmitted through other channels, with inter contact transmission being common. Sexually transmitted diseases can be transmitted within the family. In addition to sexual transmission between spouses, in a few cases, family members may also become infected through contact with the secretions of sexually transmitted disease patients.
Myth 3: Only those with sexual disorder will develop sexually transmitted diseases
Many people believe that by cleaning themselves, they won't get sick. In fact, among all sexually transmitted disease patients, 70% -80% do not have any chaotic experiences, and everyone is at risk of contracting the disease.
Myth 4: Pay attention to personal hygiene and avoid sexually transmitted diseases
Methods such as vaginal cleaning, urination, external ejaculation, antibiotic use, and local application after sexual intercourse cannot effectively prevent sexually transmitted diseases.
Myth 5: Oral sex does not infect sexually transmitted diseases
Oral sex is one of the important ways of sexually transmitted diseases infection. Rashes, gonorrhea, syphilis, nongonococcal urethritis and AIDS may be infected by oral sex.
Myth 6: Whether women have sexually transmitted diseases can be seen from their appearance
Many sexually transmitted diseases have no obvious symptoms in women, and there are no visible abnormalities in their appearance, or the lesions are hidden near the cervix, making it difficult to detect. Therefore, women are not aware of the carrier of sexually transmitted diseases. A woman with a normal appearance does not necessarily mean she is safe.
Myth 7: People with poor health may develop sexually transmitted diseases
Sexually transmitted diseases are ubiquitous, and people with strong health can also suffer from them.
