Many men are not sure if they have impotence, but in fact, the nature of impotence can be judged from the nighttime erection of the penis. Normal men of all ages can experience penile reflex erections during nighttime sleep. During puberty, an average of about 6 erections per night, each lasting 20-30 minutes; Young adults have an average of about 4 erections per night; Healthy elderly people over the age of 65 can still have a total erection time of 1 to 1.5 hours per night. Even children often have penile erections in their sleep.
Obviously, reflective erections of the penis at night are not related to sexual stimulation, nor are they affected by psychosocial factors. Therefore, they can be used to identify whether impotence is caused by psychosocial factors or disease factors. If an impotent patient does not have nighttime erections or the degree of erections is below the normal value of the same age group, there can be disease factors that need to be further investigated. If an impotent patient has a normal nighttime erection, it is not caused by disease factors, but by mental and psychological factors. There are several methods for self judgment of penis erection at night:
(1) Stamp test: Wrap four perforated stamps around the penis, glue the overlapping parts together, and form a ring before falling asleep. Early in the morning, check whether the joint of the stamp is torn. The person who has torn it indicates an erection at night. If the overlapping part is not firmly adhered and comes off, it means nothing.
(2) Measurement of penis circumference: There is a commercially available tape measure (usually paper) with a square buckle attached to one end. Before going to bed, wrap it around the penis and thread one end through the buckle. First, read the circumference base number of the penis in the soft shrink state, and then check the data for any changes in the next morning. The difference between the data before and after sleep is the increase in the circumference of the penis after an erection at night. The value added for normal people is 1.5 to 4.1 centimeters. If it is greater than 1.5 centimeters, the yin impotence may be caused by mental factors; Less than 1.5 centimeters, the impotence may be caused by mental factors; If it is less than 1.5 centimeters, it should be considered that it may be caused by disease factors.
(3) Penis strength measurement: Use a commercially available paper penis strength measurement tape, wrap it around the penis before going to bed, and observe the breakage of three small color bands on the tape the next morning. If none of the small bands breaks, it indicates that there is no nighttime erection, and vulvar flaccidity is caused by a disease. "Breaking only the red bands is an invalid erection, and breaking the red and yellow bands is an insufficient erection. The cause of impotence still needs to be considered as a disease factor.". If the three small bands of red, yellow, and blue are all broken, it indicates a good erection at night, and impotence is caused by mental and psychological factors.
In recent years, there is also a novel instrument for monitoring nighttime penile erections. An elastic force sensing ring is used to cover the penis and fall asleep. The ring can automatically monitor and record nighttime penile erections. The next day, after notifying the computer for processing, an image report can be made. Of course, this method should be carried out under the guidance of a doctor.
Obviously, self measurement of penile erection at night in an impotent person is very helpful in identifying the cause of impotence. "Some patients with mental impotence experience a normal erection of the penis during the night, and their confidence increases greatly. Impotence will also heal without treatment.".
