There are three misconceptions in adolescent sex education: the earlier sex education, the earlier sexual behavior

A few days ago, at the public welfare forum launched by the China Youth Foundation, many experts pointed out that there are many misunderstandings about sex education for Chinese teenagers.
Myth 1: Adequate sex education for adolescents. According to Durex's 2004 Global Situation Report, the average age at which Chinese teenagers first receive sex education is 13.7 years old, ranking seventh among the 41 countries surveyed.
Dr. Wallay Rodia, spokesperson for the World Health Organization's representative office in China, told reporters that when he talked to some university students in Beijing, he found that many people were still ignorant about sexual issues.
Myth 2: The earlier sex education, the earlier sexual behavior. This is one of the reasons why many parents dare not talk about sex with their children. Ms. Shirley Teriya, representative of the United Nations Population Fund in China, said, "It's not that teenagers will not engage in sexual activity without talking about sex. The actual situation in China and many countries is that more and more young girls are getting pregnant before marriage, and they know little about sex.
Misunderstanding 3: Sex education is to avoid unmarried pregnancy. Professor Zhao Pengfei, representative office of the World Health Organization in China, said that youth sex education should not only avoid premarital sex, but also expand to prevent AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases. According to statistics, as of September 1999, there were 15000 cases of AIDS and HIV infection in China, of which 58% were young people aged 20-29. In countries with well-developed adolescent sex education, this rate has significantly decreased.
