Previously, the vast majority of research on this issue had participants recall how many times they thought about sex in a day or even a week, making it less reliable. Recently, a study by psychologist Fisher from Ohio State University has made a new breakthrough.
Fisher and his team recruited 163 female participants and 129 male participants from university students, and then asked them to carry a counter with them. Next, the researchers required 60% of these participants to press the counter every time they thought about sex, while the rest of the participants needed to count when they thought about food or sleep. In this way, interference during questioning and errors during recall can be avoided.

Researchers found that the median number of times male participants thought about sexual related issues per day was 18, while female participants thought about it 10 times. On average, every male thinks more about sex once an hour when awake, while females think about half as much as males.
