The hymen is an important organ for young girls, representing not only their identity but also protecting their vagina. However, the hymen can also have abnormal conditions, and hymen atresia is a disease.
What is hymen atresia
Hymen atresia is an uncommon congenital reproductive organ development defect in women. Simply put, hymen atresia refers to the absence of a hole in the hymen of a patient. Generally, at the age of twelve or thirteen, when menstruation first occurs and blood flow does not flow out, it accumulates and forms congestion in the vagina. Menstrual blood does not solidify, and sometimes it can cause the uterus to swell and cause pain - such patients usually go to the hospital for emergency treatment.
After a clear diagnosis is made, the doctor performs an outpatient small surgery to cut a small hole in the hymen and cause congestion. This operation will not completely crack the hymen, girls don't have to worry too much. Hymen atresia generally has fewer problems and does not affect fertility.
Symptoms of hymen atresia
1. Delayed Menstrual Menarche: Under normal circumstances, when a woman is 12 to 14 years old and suffers from hymen atresia, she may experience delayed or delayed menarche after puberty.
2. Periodic lower abdominal pain: The hymen is blocked, resulting in blood accumulation, and periodic lower abdominal pain gradually worsens.
3. There is a lump in the lower abdomen: the lump can be touched in the lower abdomen and increases month by month.
4. Hymen expands outward: during examination, the hymen expands outward, with a purple blue surface and no vaginal opening.
5. Urinary system symptoms: in severe cases, it is accompanied by Urinary system symptoms such as constipation, frequent urination, urinary accumulation, constipation, anal expansion, etc.
Judgment of hymen atresia
During development, the formation of pores in the hymen is called hymen atresia, also known as the hymen without pores.
The development of the uterus and vagina is normal. After puberty and menarche, menstrual blood accumulates in the vagina and extends to the uterus. Blood accumulates in the vagina and uterus, flowing from the fallopian tubes into the abdominal cavity, causing peritoneal stimulation, swelling, adhesions, and fallopian tube occlusion.
Women with imperforate hymen may not have menarche during puberty and experience periodic lower abdominal pain that gradually worsens. After multiple attempts, a lump can be touched in the lower abdomen, gradually becoming larger. When the lump becomes larger, constipation, frequent urination, and urinary accumulation occur.
Hymen atresia examination
1. Gynecological anal examination: A protruding hymen, a lump in the vagina, protruding towards the rectum, enlarged uterus, and cystic masses on both sides are visible. Diagnosis can usually be made based on the above symptoms and signs, without the need for auxiliary examinations.
