Does watching pornographic movies often cause brain atrophy? Three Disadvantages of Men Watching Pornographic Movies
According to a new study in Germany, people who watch a large number of pornographic films may have smaller brain regions responsible for rewards and motivation, and weaker levels of activity. The research paper is published in the Journal of the American Medical Association - Psychiatry.
Dr. Simone Kuhn from the Institute of Human Development of the Planck Society in Berlin, Germany, and Jurgen Garlinat from the Charlotte Medical University in Berlin jointly studied. They surveyed 64 healthy men aged 21 to 45, including questions about their habits of watching pornographic movies. At the same time, researchers also used magnetic resonance imaging technology to measure the brain capacity of participants and observe their brain response to pornographic images. The results indicate that compared to men who do not watch pornographic images and images at all, men who frequently watch such works have significant brain changes.
Dr. Kuhn said: "The more people watch pornographic movies, the smaller the volume of their texture bodies (regions of the brain related to reward response mechanisms and motivational behavior) She also added, "In addition, it was found that people who watch pornographic films more often have less activity in the other area of the striatum that responds to sexual stimulation." The researchers also found that the connection between the striatum and the prefrontal cortex (the outer layer of the brain that is related to physical behavior and decision-making) deteriorates with increasing time spent watching pornographic films.
But this study cannot prove that pornographic movies cause brain changes. Dr. Kuhn pointed out that there is no conclusion as to whether watching pornographic videos is truly harmful. Research has shown that if one does not watch pornographic movies, brain capacity and activity will decrease. Because it is not yet clear whether watching pornographic movies causes brain changes or whether people born with a certain type of brain often watch pornographic movies Dr. Kuhn explained, "Unfortunately, based on current research results, we are still unable to answer this question. However, she has demonstrated for the first time the relationship between watching pornographic movies and a decrease in brain capacity and a weakened brain response to sexual stimuli.
Regarding this research result, Dr. Gregory Tau of the New York State School of Psychiatry at Columbia University commented that nothing is good, and it is not scary to stop appropriately. Tao did not participate in this study and believes that more research should be done in this area to determine whether pornographic movies can cause brain changes, which requires long-term research. Some people may have a brain that is more susceptible to the influence of this behavior. Alternatively, excessive watching of pornographic movies can cause brain changes. Alternatively, it can be both. In addition, Kuenye also stated that other behaviors such as driving a taxi are related to changes in brain volume and function. He said: What people often do can basically form brain structure and function
