Does sexual frequency affect sperm quality? How often does sexual intercourse make it easier to get pregnant
How often is it easiest to get pregnant when sharing a room? Some people believe that frequent sexual intercourse has a greater chance of conception; And some people, especially those who believe in traditional Chinese medicine, teach them to have fewer sexual intercourse because it is important to have a clear mind and few desires in order to maintain energy and energy. This is indeed a very important issue. Leaving aside other issues, from the perspective of childbirth, how can we grasp the frequent occurrence of sexual activity?
Some people also ask doctors, "Why do you have to have contraindicated sexual intercourse for 3-5 days before testing semen
The essence of both is the same, that is, will the frequency of sexual activity (ejaculation frequency) affect semen quality? It is known that sperm form in the testicles and enter the epididymis. Almost half of the time, they age, decompose, and are absorbed before reaching the tail of the epididymis. Under normal circumstances, the mature sperm stored in the tail of epididymis accounts for 70% of the whole reproductive tract, only 2% is stored in the Vas deferens, and the rest is stored in the ampulla. Although the seminal vesicle is not a storage bank for sperm, during sexual activity, a small amount of semen flows into the seminal vesicle, bringing sperm into it. The longer the abstinence period, the more sperm is stored inside.
Semen reaches maturity in the epididymis, thereby obtaining the necessary motor ability for fertilization. Therefore, the environment of the epididymis is still beneficial for the survival of sperm. However, sperm still cannot survive indefinitely and will gradually age and lose vitality during storage. Black spots may appear in the cytoplasm of the sperm head, and the sperm head may be completely colored or not colored at all. As the number of ejaculations increases, the breakdown of aging sperm in the epididymis and the production of newly mature sperm will form a stable and reserve maintaining balance.
When the sexual life is interrupted for a long time, the sperm will lose the ability to fertilize first, then lose the motility, and finally disintegrate in the Vas deferens, leading to the decline of semen quality, that is, the proportion of aging sperm will increase. For example, after a long-term separation between a couple, the semen ejaculated in the first few times will inevitably contain more aged sperm. Moreover, the fertilization ability of aging sperm decreases due to the change of acrosome. If fertilized, the change of chromosome and DNA content will also affect the development of the fetal central nervous system, leading to mental retardation, malformation, or abortion. Therefore, in terms of increasing the chances of pregnancy, prolonged abstinence is unfavorable, while short sexual intercourse time reduces the chances of sperm and egg contact, which is also unfavorable for patients with infertility.
There have been detailed clinical studies abroad on the relationship between ejaculation frequency and semen quality. Volunteers masturbate once a day and collect semen samples for a total of 21 days. Before the experiment, each person should take semen three times, and sexual intercourse should be prohibited for 3-5 days before each semen collection. The average value should be taken as a self control. In the first 4 days after the experiment, the sperm density, sperm quantity, and total sperm count were reduced by 70%, 60%, and 50%, respectively, reaching the level of the normal control group. After the extratesticular sperm reserve is emptied, all indicators become more stable and maintain until the 21st day. During the 5-21 day trial, these three indicators seemed to be relatively stable. But when the driving ban was less than 12 hours, the sperm density and semen volume decreased to half of the control group, and the total sperm count decreased more significantly, only 28% of the control group.
The research results show that abstinence for 24 hours can rapidly increase sperm reserves. Therefore. Men with fertility issues should undergo abstinence treatment for 3-5 days before the expected date of conception. To ensure the above indicators and requirements, adopting the practice of having sex once every other day will increase the likelihood of a woman becoming pregnant compared to having sex once a day.
