Can vulvar leukoplakia become cancerous? The most reasonable prevention of daily life details
Vulvar leukoplakia is a common gynecological disease and one of the diseases that endanger the normal life and health of patients. It should be treated immediately after illness, especially in daily life, and reasonable prevention should be taken.
Can leukoplakia of the external genitalia undergo cancerous transformation
In the last century, it was believed that cancer could occur, and even vulvar leukoplakia was considered a precancerous lesion. At present, this overemphasizes the relationship between this disease and vulvar cancer. In recent years, after extensive investigation and research both domestically and internationally, it has been found that the canceration rate of this disease is not high, and it is only considered a precancerous lesion when there is epithelial hyperplasia. In order to unify understanding, the International Association for the Study of Vulvar Diseases in 1975 referred to white lesions of the vulva as chronic vulvar malnutrition, which can be divided into three types based on histopathological changes: proliferative malnutrition, sclerotic mossy malnutrition, and mixed malnutrition. Someone has tracked vulvar leukoplakia for 20-30 years and found that the cancer rate is extremely low (only about 2%). So, there is no need to be nervous or fearful after suffering from this disease. However, regular follow-up is necessary after treatment. Especially for people with proliferative malnutrition, collapse, and induration, more attention should be paid to cancer progression.
Harm of vulvar leukoplakia
1. Causing burning and tingling sensation in the external genitalia: About 15% to 20% of patients with vulvar leukoplakia experience burning and tingling sensation in the external genitalia, especially in middle-aged and elderly women. This symptom is not easily relieved during the treatment process.
2. Causing vulvar itching: Almost all patients with vulvar leukoplakia experience varying degrees of vulvar itching, with some patients constantly scratching due to unbearable itching, resulting in local skin rupture. In addition, the range of itching varies among different patients, with some limited to outside the vaginal opening and others affecting outside the anal opening.
3. Serious impact on sexual life of couples: Genital leukoplakia can cause the surface of the white spot to thicken or become very smooth, the skin at the affected area becomes dry and lose elasticity, the patient's pubic hair becomes sparse or falls off, and the vaginal opening becomes narrow, which can affect the quality of sexual life. If not entered in a timely manner
4. Difficulty in delivery: Due to the narrowing of the vaginal opening, it can become very difficult for some female patients who have not given birth to a fetus through the vagina, and bacteria may infect the fetus during delivery, causing serious consequences.
5. Carcinogenesis: If white spots on the vulva cannot be effectively treated for a long time, they will turn into cancer when the condition is severe, such as vulvar cancer, which threatens the lives of female friends.
