Cervicitis is a gynecological disease that we are familiar with. There are two conditions: acute cervicitis and chronic cervicitis. We should pay attention to these two conditions and also pay attention to their impact.
Can chronic cervicitis lead to female infertility?
Many women suffer from symptoms of acute cervicitis that are not very obvious and are often overlooked, leading to chronic cervicitis. About 20% -25% of patients with excessive vaginal secretions are caused by cervicitis, which causes thick and purulent vaginal discharge and hinders the passage of sperm through the cervical canal to cause infertility. A considerable portion of infertility clinics in various hospitals are caused by chronic cervicitis.
Chronic cervicitis is often caused by incomplete treatment of acute cervicitis, where the pathogen hides in the cervical mucosa and forms chronic inflammation. However, due to the fact that infection is a chronic process, many women do not have obvious symptoms after falling ill, such as increased vaginal discharge, diarrhea, low back pain, lower abdominal distension, etc. Many women find incomplete treatment of acute cervicitis caused by chronic cervicitis in gynecological examinations, which has become a rare occurrence of chronic cervicitis. About 20% -25% of patients with excessive vaginal secretions are caused by cervicitis, which causes thick and purulent vaginal discharge and hinders the passage of sperm through the cervical canal to cause infertility. Gynecological examination can reveal a certain degree of erosion and hypertrophy of the cervix, as well as cervical erosion caused by polyps, lacerations, ectropions, cervical gland cysts, and contact bleeding caused by cervical polyps after sexual intercourse.
How is chronic cervicitis caused?
Chronic cervicitis is mostly caused by damage to the cervix during childbirth, miscarriage, or surgery, with pathogens invading and infecting the cervix. In addition, frequent sexual activity, physical or chemical stimulation, endometritis, and vaginitis are also related. It can cause deeper lesions, and due to long-term stimulation of chronic inflammation, it can cause deeper lesions such as polyps, lacerations, ectropions, cysts, etc. Cervicitis itself a common disease among women of childbearing age, and many patients are associated with poor hygiene habits, which can easily lead to bacterial infections in such cases. The main pathogens of chronic cervicitis are Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Escherichia coli, and anaerobic bacteria, which can cause various inflammations after invading the patient's body. In addition, due to incomplete treatment of acute cervicitis, the possibility of pathogens hiding in the cervical mucosa and forming chronic inflammation is also the possibility of acute cervicitis becoming chronic cervicitis.
