Experts see that villagers use wool cottonseed oil for cooking, but wool cottonseed oil is not suitable for long-term consumption. Wool cottonseed oil contains gossypol, which can cause sterility. In the chemical dictionary, the annotation for "gossypol" is that it can cause temporary infertility and is an important raw material for making birth control pills.
Experts pointed out that long-term consumption of wool cottonseed oil can make people suffer from sunburn, which is manifested by the onset of sunburn, general weakness or less sweat, hot skin, flushing, panic, shortness of breath, dizziness, numbness of limbs, and loss of appetite. The more serious impact is damage to the reproductive system. The experimental study showed that the testes of rats fed with wool cottonseed oil for about 4 months were significantly reduced, spermatid were significantly reduced or even disappeared, the uterus was shrunk, the endometrium and glands were atrophied, the ovary was slightly atrophied, and the renal parenchyma cells were slightly swollen. Adult men took gossypol, the extract of wool cottonseed oil, for 40 days, 60-70 mg per day. In a short time, all sperm were killed and gradually disappeared from semen; Women can cause amenorrhea or uterine atrophy. Therefore, it is not suitable for young people of childbearing age to consume it for a long time.
After the 1990s, the number of infertile villagers in the village decreased. Experts explained that this was also because the number of villagers eating wool cottonseed oil gradually decreased. After land development, the income level of villagers increased, and many villagers had already used peanut oil.
The original cause of infertility was cotton seed oil used for cooking. The villagers were shocked. So far, the villagers who are still eating the wool cottonseed oil planted and squeezed by themselves said that they will not eat the wool cottonseed oil in the future.
